Add a Handle Linkage Constraint

Piping Design

General

  • A handle linkage is a geometric constraint that is used in piping design.
    • Piping design is included in the program: Vertex G4 plant design , Vertex G4 plant
    • An option is available for Vertex G4: Piping Design.
  • A handle linkage is created automatically when a pipe component is added to a pipeline, for example.
  • A handle linkage can be defined between the two handles.
  • The handle linkage is displayed as follows in the bottom frame of the assembly tree:
  • You can show or hide the handles in the parts with the setting: File > User Preferences > Drawings, Models > View tab > Model group > Show pipe handles

Add a handle linkage between a pipe, pipe part and component

  1. Select Assembly | Constraints | Add handle linkage constraint.
  2. Click the first part.
    • The program draws the handles of the part.
  3. Select the grip point.
  4. Click the second part.
    • The program draws the handles of the part.
  5. Select the grip point.
    • The program moves the handles together.
  6. Continue repeating steps 1 ... 5 until all the desired constraints have been added.
  7. Stop adding handle linkage constraints:
    • Select another function.
    • Press the Esc key.
    • Press the V key (Confirm).
    • Select the context-sensitive function OK.
    • Click the middle mouse button.
Note:
  • You can also find the handle linkage as a context-sensitive function: Constraints > Handle Linkage
  • A handle linkage is underdefined if rotation is released. Rotation is a property of a handle linkage.
