Log Wall Height Dialog Box

You can define the height data of a log wall when adding it, or edit the height data of an existing wall. You can change the type of the bottom log or add logs to the top or bottom of the wall by editing the height data. You can also select whether the log wall creates a room or not.

Edit the height data in the dialog box. The title bar of the dialog box displays the label of the selected log profile.

Base log
When adding a log wall, select the Automatic radio button to have the type of the bottom log determined by the base_log keyword in the LOGHOUSE setup file. The keyword can have the following values:
Value Meaning
FULL Base log always full
HALF Base log always half
HALF_HORIZ In horizontal walls the base log is half, and full in others
HALF_VERT In vertical walls the base log is half, and full in others
When you are editing a wall, you can select one of the following as the type of the base log:
  • Full - the log height is the same as the "Height of base log" parameter
  • Half - the log height is the same as the "Height of half log" parameter
  • Normal - the log height is the same as the "Log height" parameter
The parameters are described in the guide for the Log wall parameters dialog box at Profile parameters.

Edges of wall
You can define the height of a log wall by entering the locating heights of its top and bottom edges in the Top of wall and Bottom of wall fields. Type these heights in relation to the floor base height. The Number of logs and Height of wall fields in the lower left corner of the dialog box are automatically updated.
The final height of the log wall depends on whether the top log is partial or full. If the checkbox Partial top log is selected, the top edge of the wall will be positioned at the exact height you have entered. If the checkbox is empty, the top log will be full, and the final height of the log wall is determined by the number of logs. The parameter Top log affects the default value:
  • If the parameter is 0, the top log is always full, and the check box Partial top log is empty by default.
  • If the parameter is 1, the top log is partial if necessary, and the check box Partial top log is selected by default.
Log Wall Parameters Dialog Box
You can move the wall to a certain height by selecting the Lock number of logs check box and selecting the height of either the bottom or the top of the log wall. You can select a height for one of the edges only. Calculate the locating height of the other edge by clicking the Apply button.
Apply changes to top/bottom of wall
You can add or remove logs from the top or bottom of the wall. Select the Top of wall or Bottom of wall radio button, according to which edge you want to change. You can then increase or decrease the number of logs by clicking the or button. The wall height and the height of the selected edge (Top or Bottom) are updated to match the number of logs.
You can also type the wall height in the Height of wall field, and the number of logs and the locating height of the selected edge will be updated to match the wall height.
Number of logs
When the Automatic option is selected at Base log, the number of logs refers to the walls with a full base log.'
You cannot set the number of logs to zero.
Room-Creating Wall
When you add a log wall, the auxiliary function Room creating wall is enabled by default. In this case, all the walls you add will create a room. Sometimes it may be necessary to disable this property for a log wall. For example, when you change the log wall to a ridge beam or wall of a terrace.
Equally, if the auxiliary function was disabled when a wall was added, you can later select the property Room creating wall for the wall.
Beams added with the Generate Log Beams function do not create rooms, and this property is disabled for them by default.

Note

  • You can edit the height of an existing log wall by using the function Setting the Height of a Log Wall, or by editing the log wall properties. Do either of the following:
    • Double-click the log wall.
    • Select one or more log walls, right-click to open the context-sensitive menu, and select Properties.
