Changing a Part Local
A local part is a part of an assembly that does not have a link to a separate part model. That is, if you first create a part model, then create an assembly and import the part locally, then changing the part model will not be updated to the model added to the assembly. On the other hand, if the part is not local, then the change made to the part model is updated in all assemblies where it has been used non-locally.
There are two ways to make a part local:
- When creating a new part in an assembly:
- Select the context-sensitive New....
- Select local.
- After creating a new part;
- In the history tree, open the context-sensitive menu for the part to be changed local.
- Select Other Functions> Change to Local.
- Select the number of parts to be changed local: Parts of the first level or all parts of the assembly recursively.
Note: This feature can be used if you want to "freeze" a design situation so that its parts and subassemblies do not change later.
- Save the assembly as a new one before you change its parts and subassemblies to local.
- Use the shortcut key Ctrl+A to select all parts of the main level of the assembly.
