Convert a Part into an Assembly

General

  • Use this function when you have selected Part as the model type, even though the intention was to model an Assembly.
  • A model is converted from a part into an assembly as follows:
    • The name of the model remains unchanged.
    • The geometry of the original part is saved as a local assembly part with the name PART.
  • You cannot convert a part selected for editing in an assembly into an assembly.
    • The part model to be converted must be separately opened in the working window.

Convert a Part into an Assembly

  1. In the initial situation, the model intended to be an assembly is a part model.

  2. In the model window, select the context-sensitive function Edit Model > Convert pat to assembly.
    • The geometry of the original part is saved as a local part with the name PART.
    • You can rename the local part (PART) in the part properties. Part Properties Dialog Box

  3. If you have already modeled the part before converting the part model to an assembly model and you want to save the part to the archive, do the following:
  4. If you did not model the part, remove the local part that is not needed.
    • Select the part (PART).
    • Press the Delete key or select the context-sensitive function Delete.
  5. Continue modeling the assembly.
