Convert a Part into an Assembly
General
- Use this function when you have selected Part as the model type, even though the intention was to model an Assembly.
- A model is converted from a part into an assembly as follows:
- The name of the model remains unchanged.
- The geometry of the original part is saved as a local assembly part with the name PART.
- You cannot convert a part selected for editing in an assembly into an assembly.
- The part model to be converted must be separately opened in the working window.
Convert a Part into an Assembly
- In the initial situation, the model intended to be an assembly is a part model.
- In the model window, select the context-sensitive function Edit Model > Convert pat to assembly.
- The geometry of the original part is saved as a local part with the name PART.
- You can rename the local part (PART) in the part properties. Part Properties Dialog Box
- If you have already modeled the part before converting the part model to an assembly model and you want to save the part to the archive, do the following:
- Select the part (PART).
- Select the context-sensitive function Save as New....
- If you did not model the part, remove the local part that is not needed.
- Select the part (PART).
- Press the Delete key or select the context-sensitive function Delete.
- Continue modeling the assembly.
