Trim a Corner

Sheet-Metal Design

Trimming corners creates an opening according to the selected shape in the corner of bent faces on a sheet in flattened mode. If you have not made any selections when you launch this function, the software finds the corners from the model. You can view and edit the selections before confirming the data. You can trim more than one corner at once but all corners selected at the same time will use the same values and shapes for the trimming.

Trim corners as follows:

  1. Select Sheet metal part | Tools | Unbend. More options...Less options...
    • (OR) Select the context-sensitive function Edit Model Unbend.
  2. Select the face based on which the flattening will be made. The program automatically suggests the largest planar surface as the flattening reference surface. Accept the selection by selecting the context-sensitive function OK or by pressing the middle mouse button or select a new planar surface.
  3. If necessary, edit the bends in the Bend Properties dialog box.
  4. Select OK.
  5. Select Sheet metal part | Tools | Trim Corner. The software searches the corners to be trimmed automatically. More options...Less options...
    • (OR) Select at least one edge line pair and select the context-sensitive function Trim Corners....
  6. Fill in the data in the Corner Trim Properties dialog box. If necessary, you can remove automatically selected edge line pair selections.
  7. Select OK.
Note:
  • In the flattened 3D model of a sheet-metal part, you can prevent tools from being used by defining the radius of the Circle or the Square opening tool as 0 in the dialog box. In this case the corner is not opened at all.
  • You can edit the sketch of a library feature by selecting the Sketch symbol in the feature tree of the part and then selecting the Edit function.
  • You can change the library feature into another opening tool by selecting the Library Feature symbol and then selecting the Edit Feature function.
