Models in DesignStream System

The Vertex DesignStream data management system is a separate product that requires customer-specific fitting. Once the projects have been saved to the DesignStream system, the designer can open the shared model directly from the system and check it into the system after editing.

Main designer

1. Start a new project or open an existing project in the DesignStream system.
   • New Project Label in the DesignStream System

2. Create a shared model of the main project. Get the shared model ID from the DesignStream system or enter the desired ID. Enter the shared model an ID in such a way that it is easy to determine from which main project the shared model was made.

   Note: A project object is created in the DesignStream system, but no BD project containing the geometry of the model has been connected to it at this stage. The BD project folder is created into the local project archive.
3. Check-in the BD project containing the geometry of the shared model to the DesignStream system.
   • If you picked the shared model ID from the DesignStream system, open the project from the local project archive and check it into the DesignStream system.

     • Export a Project to the DesignStream system
   • If you did not pick the ID from the DesignStream system, use the batch transfer function to export the shared model to the DesignStream system. You can export several projects at the same time.

4. Tell the designer the ID of the shared model.

Designer

1. Open the shared model’s project from the DesignStream system.
   • Check Out a Project from the DesignStream System

   The project document browser displays the text (Shared Model) after the project name.

2. Design. For example, design panels. If necessary, mark the environment of the shared/smart model.

3. Save the project.
4. Export the project to the DesignStream system.
   • Export a Project to the DesignStream system
5. Tell the main designer that the design is complete.

Main designer

1. Do either of the following:
   • Open the main model’s project from the DesignStream system.
     • Check Out a Project from the DesignStream System
     Select the data to be updated in the Smart Model Status dialog box. You can update the geometry of the smart model by clicking Update Geometry. In addition to the geometry, you can update the smart model’s material data, panel drawings and part drawings by clicking Update All. When the smart model is up-to-date, the buttons are not available.
     The options in the dialog box are the same as in the Sub Project Status dialog box.

   • If the main model’s project is already open, select the shared model and check that it is up-to-date.

2. Objects added to the shared model are copied to the main project.

3. Save the project.
4. Export the project to the DesignStream system.
