Add a Plane

You can add the new plane from the part model, in relation to the plane.

The plane can be added in relation to a plane selected from the model.

The plane can be added also from the part geometry selected surface, line, line, line and point, in relation to the three point formed layer, or the point and the plane formed surface formed layer.

The advantage of using a plane lies in the opportunity of adding several sketches to the same plane.

  1. Open a part model in the working window. Browse - Archives.
  2. Add the new plane.
  3. Select one of the following part model elements.
    • Select an existing plane.
    • Select the part surface: planar face, cylinder, conical, spherical surface, or the spline surface.
    • Select a line and a point of the part.
    • Select three points of the part. The first point defines the origin of the plane.
    • Select a line of a guide curve.
    • Select a point and a planar face. The point defines the origin of the plane,
    • Select a planar face, and a line on the planar face. The plane is positioned perpendicular to the planar face so that the X axis of the sketch is parallel to the line.
  4. Select the context-sensitive function New plane.
  5. If you have selected a plane or a face of the part, select one of the following:
    • Face: This option is available only for planes, cylindrical faces, spherical faces, or spline faces.
    • Parallel: Specify the distance of the plane from the face.
    • Angle: Enter the angle value around the red axis.
    • Advanced: Specify the offset/rotation of the plane in relation to the origin.
  6. Do either of the following:
    • Select the New Sketch function to activate the sketching mode. Continue by sketching, or add a library sketch.
    • Select New plane.
Note:
  • You can move the plane you added in the feature tree of the part by clicking the symbol of the plane and selecting the context-sensitive function Move.
  • A connection point must be defined for a plane added to a line, a cylindrical face, or a spherical face. It can be defined in the same way as when a new sketch is added to the corresponding elements.
