Add a Library Component

Library

General

  • Adding library components to an assembly is much the same as adding parts to an assembly, although the use of dimension tables is strongly emphasized. See Add a Part or Assembly in the Model Archive.
  • A library component can be a single part or an assembly of local parts.
  • A grip point has been added to the library components, which the component is attached to during the insertion phase and which directs the component based on the geometry under the cursor.
  • Components controlled by the table IDs of the dimension table are associated with the original library component. The selected dimension table ID and the . L extension are set as the part data of the component in the assembly tree.
  • If the size of the component is defined in the variable fields of the dimension table, or the dimension table does not exist at all, the component is added to the assembly as a local part with no extension in its part data.
  • A library component can be an assembly part machining component, or it can have both geometry and machining geometry.

Starting point

  • The assembly model where the components are added is open and the model window is active.
  • The program includes the program module Component Library.

Add the library component to the assembly

  1. Start adding the component
    • Select the function Assembly | Add > Component or
    • Select the context-sensitive function Add > Component or
    • Select the context-sensitive function Add> Add Pipe Component.
    • The program opens a browser in add mode.
  2. Browse the archive and select the component
    • Double-click the component in the or
    • Click the component and select the context-sensitive function Select.
    • If the component does not have a dimension table, go to
  3. If the component you want to add has multiple configurations, select the configuration you want to add to the assembly.
    • Configurations can be found in components Axle Components > Conveyor Wheels, for example. In others, they are rare.
  4. Select a size or fill in the data in the dimension table.
  5. Click OK to accept the selected or entered dimensions.
  6. Select an auxiliary function for adding the component, if necessary.
    • You can rotate the component.
    • You can change its reference point by using the auxiliary function Select reference point.
    • You can create a pattern of it by selecting the auxiliary function Create pattern.
    • If your assembly contains configurations, you can select the auxiliary function Added instance is visible only at active configuration.
    • Auxiliary Functions for Adding a Model
  7. Select a location for the component or components in the model.
    • The components are positioned in the center of, for example, a cylindrical hole from their grip point and are oriented inside the hole.
    • If necessary, limit the cursor snap by selecting Point, Line or Face on the toolbar.
    • Note that the program can add an automatic coincidence constraint between the part to be added and the selected part if you click the position from a part.
    • If you want to add the same component more than once, select the positions of the next components.
  8. Select Confirm to stop adding the selected component. (Confirm = V key, middle mouse button or the context-sensitive function OK.
    • The program opens the browser and displays the same folder from which you picked the previous model
  9. If necessary, select another model to add from the archive, and repeat steps 3 to 8.
  10. Quit adding parts
    • Select another function or
    • Press the Esc key.

Alternative adding method, use a base browser

  1. Open the (base) browser by pressing the B key.
  2. Browse the library and select the component
    • Click the component and select the context-sensitive function Add or
    • Select the component and drag it a short distance and release the mouse button.
    • Note that double-clicking opens the component for editing, unlike the above, where the browser in the add mode was used.
  3. Continue as above, steps 3...5.
  4. Stop adding components
    • Select another function or
    • Press the Esc key or
    • Press the V key or
    • Press the middle mouse button or
    • Select the context-sensitive function OK.
