Add or Edit the Item Data of a Part

General

  • The item data contains the item of the part, i.e. a unique identifier with which the part is identified, as well as other alpha-numeric information, such as the raw material of the part or the structure of the assembly.
  • If the company uses a production control system, it is based on items and the same items should be used in Vertex.
  • If the company uses the Vertex Flow product data management software in addition to the Vertex G4 design program, then the items are managed in Vertex Flow.

You can add and edit the item data of a part one of the followings:

  • When creating a new document, use the Item button.
  • Select the Item Data function from the context-sensitive menu.
  • Select the main symbol of the part from the feature tree and the context-sensitive function Item Data.
  • Select a part in the working window, then select the context-sensitive function Properties and click the Item Data button.

Grouping Item Data

  • The upper part of the dialog box contains the item data of the part.
  • The lower part of the dialog box contains the "structure" of the part, i.e. the data related to the raw material. The lower part is divided into two tabs:
    • Archive Item Data
    • Purchased Item Data

Item Data

Label
Item label used to identify the part in various information systems.
  • Define the label
    • By typing or
    • By selecting the button Lable? which generates a label for the item or
    • Select the button Select from item database in the Label Select Mode dialog box that opens with the button Label?
    • See item label
  • The naming method of the label can also be done as a customer fitting.
  • If the Label field is empty, the material data of the part will not be presented in the assembly parts list, which is generated by collecting the entire structure (roll-out).
The label of a table model (= the model describes several different parts) automatically receives the prefix VAR, followed by the model label.
  • For example, VAR-Wheel.
  • As the structure data of the table model is presented the items, which are defined as configuration-specific and which drawings are table drawings.
Transfer to Items
Saves the part into an item in the Item Database.
Edit
Opens the part's item data for editing in the Item Database.
  • This requires that the item is in the item database (d_COMPONENTS).
Used in?
You can search for items that have the item in question in their structure.
  • It requires that the items, including their structures, have been transferred to the item database.
Description
The content of the Description field is copied from the archive data of the part when the Item function is started for the first time.
  • If you select an item label from the item database, the contents of the fields Description, Dimensions, Unit and Standard are completed with the information of the item you selected.
Dimensions
If necessary, enter dimension information of the part.
  • This information is displayed in the Shape, Dimension, Designation field of the parts list in the assembly drawing.
Drawing
The label of the first drawing, which is connected to the item.
  • The field is informative, i.e. inactive, so you cannot edit its content.
Model
The label of the model connected to the item.
  • The field is informative, i.e. inactive, so you cannot edit its content.
Unit
Select the part's calculation unit by using the preset button .
  • The unit can define how the part quantity is calculated.
Standard
Enter the standard ID here if the part complies with a standard.
Weight
This field will contain the result of the program's weight calculation when you click the Calculate button.
Weight, Weighted
If you select Weighted, you can enter the weight, and it will not change even if the volume of the part changes.
  • This is often used for components whose weight should not be calculated based on the model.
Area
The field shows the result of the area calculation made by the program when you select Calculate
  • Please note that the area is calculated from the area of the entire part, so it includes the area of the holes, for example.
  • The area therefore does not describe the area of the sheet metal of a sheet metal part, for example.
  • See Calculate Model Surface Area and Output to Item Data
Factor
Related to the area described above. Enter the factor, if necessary.
Purchasing
Choose a purchasing method: A, B or C.
Stored part
Defines stored part as the item data.
Spare Part
Defines spare part as the item data.
Class
  • The Vertex G4 classification system is three-level by default. The classification from rough to more detailed goes as follows: Class - Main group - Sub group.
  • Vertex Flow uses its own classification system, which is often based on the classification used by the customer's production control system.
The field contains the main classification.
Main Group
The main class of product classification.
Sub Group
The subclass of product classification.

Material Data

Label
Label of the raw material item.
  • Appears in the Drawing number/Item reference field in the parts list of the part model drawing.
Description
Description of the raw material item.
  • Appears in the Part or assembly group name field in the parts list of the part model drawing.
Material
Material of the raw material.
  • Appears in the Material field in the parts list of the part model drawing.
Preform
Describes the size of the blank.
  • The blank dimensions and material data of the sheet-metal part and composite sheet material are automatically updated if the field is empty.
  • Appears in the Shape, Dimension, Designation field in the parts list of the part model drawing.
Amount
Describes the quantity according to the unit of calculation.
  • For a sheet-metal-type part, the program calculates the area of the required rectangular blank in this field.
  • Appears in the Amount field in the parts list of the part model drawing.
Unit
Unit of calculation
Density
The density of the raw material used when calculating the weight of the part based on the volume of the model.
Price
Informative field where the price according to the calculation unit is given for the raw material.
Get Item button
You can select the item for the material data from the item database.
  1. Select the main group.
  2. Select the sub group.
  3. Select the class.
  4. Select OK.
    • The program lists the items whose classification matches the previous ones
  5. Double-click on the row to select a class or select a row and select OK.
Pick Dimension button
You can pick dimensions of the part to the Preform field of material data.
  • You can use this function, if you have defined variables for the part.
  1. Move cursor over the Preform field.
  2. You can type blank information in the field, for example PL5-
  3. Pick a dimension by clicking Pick dimension
  4. Select the dimension from the list.
    • The selected dimension is displayed in the Preform field between number signs (#) including the variable name.
The typed characters are displayed bold in examples.
  • Example 1: In the Preform field the dimensions are displayed as follows: PL5-#Length!1500#x#Width!800#
  • Example 2: In the parts list of the drawing the size of the blank is displayed as follows: PL5-1500x800
