Examine Assembly Constraints

You can view constraints in an assembly as follows:

  • All Constraints in an Assembly
  • Constraints Connected to a Part

All Constraints in an Assembly

Zoom the entire view by pressing the A key before viewing the constraints.

  • Click the symbol of an assembly in the assembly tree to list all geometric constraints defined for the assembly. The constraints related to a hidden part are also shown in the list.
  • The constraint list in the heading of the tree's bottom frame contains information about the definition of the parts. For more information, see Assembly Tree Symbols and Conventions.

Constraints Connected to a Part

Select the symbol of a part from the assembly tree to display the geometric constraints of the part as a list. The selected part is highlighted in the model.

When you click a constraint in the list with the left mouse button, the two elements (faces, lines or points) determined in the constraint will be highlighted in the working window. When you move the cursor to the working window, the viewing of constraints between parts disappears. You can also enable.

Constraint appearance Meaning
The constraint is valid.
The constraint in an assembly is disabled.
The constraint is #120 constraint of a subassembly.
  • The constraint is followed by the subassembly index number in brackets. The index shows the order in which the part or subassembly was added. The first part or assembly added gets the index #100, the second #101, and so on.
  • The subassembly constraints are displayed in the main assembly if the subassembly is not frozen in the main assembly.
An unsolved constraint that was last added or activated, even though the assembly was already fully constrained.
  • Delete this last added or activated constraint or
  • Delete another (red) constraint that conflicts with this constraint
An unsolved constraint that conflicts with other constraints.
Solving the constraint is impossible (unsolved) because the element attached to the constraint (point, line or surface) is missing from the geometry of the assembly.
  • This can happen when a part or subassembly has changed and is updated to the main assembly.
  • The missing element is displayed in the model, if you click the constraint in the assembly tree.
An unsolved constraint in an assembly that is disabled.
The constraint is attached to a fixed part, so it is disabled.
The constraint definition connected to the SmartSnap component in the assembly is insufficient. A corresponding element connected to the constraint (a point, line or face) is missing from the geometry of an assembly.
