Fix or Release a Line or Point
General
- You can fix a line so that it does not change its location. Note, however, that the endpoints a line can be dragged to a new location also from a fixed line.
- You can fix the endpoint of a line so that the endpoint can be stationary even if the line is dragged to a new location.
- Fixing a circle line fixes both the center point and the radius point of the circle.
- The center point of a circle can be fixed, so it can be stationary if the radius point of the circle is dragged.
- In some cases, fixing replaces giving constraints. For example, Line geometry copied to a sketch via the clipboard from a 2D drawing, for example a dwg drawing imported into Vertex, should often be fixed, so that it does not break up when adding other constraints or accidentally dragging.
- The context-sensitive function Release works for fixed lines and points.
Fix a line or point
- Select a line, lines, point, or points in the sketch.
- Use the Ctrl key if you select more than one element.
- Select the context-sensitive function Fix.
- If the line was free, i.e. purple, it turns black.
- If constraints were applied to the line, the constraints become red, that is, overdefined.
Release the line or point
- Select a fixed line, lines, point, or points in the sketch.
- Use the Ctrl key if you select more than one fixed element.
- Select the context-sensitive function Release.
- The color of the line becomes purple if the constraints do not limit it.
- Red, overdefined, constraints become normal constraints.
