Select a Sketch Plane as a Work Plane in a 3D Sketch

General

  • When you set a sketch plane as a work plane, all of the geometry you add with the line drawing functions is added to the space-intersecting plane defined by that work plane.
  • When the geometric constraints are resolved, the drawn lines remain aligned with the plane to which they have been added.
  • If the sketch plane has not been selected as the work plane in 3D sketching, the lines are drawn on its current drawing plane, i.e. the plane that appears to the user as a perpendicular plane and the depth to which the cursor has last reset the relative coordinates.
  • See adding a sketch plane to a 3D sketch Add a Sketch Plane in the 3d Sketch

Set a sketch plane as the work plane

  1. Select the sketch plane in the 3D sketch.
  2. Select the context-sensitive function Set Working Plane.

Selecting a Working Plane when Drawing a Line

If you select first the line darwing in the 3D sketch, select the working plane as follows:

  1. Select the line drawing function, for example Polyline, Circle etc.
  2. Select Working Plane (Sketch Plane).
  3. Select the sketch plane in the 3D sketch.
  4. Draw the lines in the selected plane.

Release the works plane or select another work plane when adding lines.

  1. Finish drawing a line, for example Polyline or Circle.
  2. Deselect Working Plane (Sketch Plane)
  3. Continue drawing a line on the work plane.
  4. To switch to another works plane, select Working Plane (Sketch Plane) and
  5. Select the sketch plane in the 3D sketch.

Release the Work Plane

  1. Select the sketch plane that you have previously set as a working plane.
  2. Select the context-sensitive function Release Working Plane.

Note:
You can also bind a line to a working plane at a later stage or, if necessary, release a line from a working plane.
  • Select the work plane and line, and select the context-sensitive function Bind to Plane.
  • Select the line and the context-sensitive function Release from Plane.
Note:
You can use the function Sketch Feature, together with the sketch planes, so that the feature is automatically targeted at the lines bound to the sketch plane, in so far as only the sketch plane is selected when the function is activated.
