Save a New Feature as a Library Feature

Library

General

A part model can be saved as a feature in the feature library. The function Save To LibraryAs Feature will open the Windows Save As dialog box, which you can use to save the file.

  • If the feature is dimensionally variable, add variables to the dimension constraints of the sketch and other dimensions of the feature.
  • Create the dimension table.
    • This is important, especially if only a limited set of different sizes are allowed for the feature.
    • The dimension table is displayed each time a feature is added to the part model. This allows you to select or enter a new size for the feature.
    • Edit the Dimension Table of a Part Model.
  • Add a grip point to the part to control the positioning and orientation of the feature, e.g. in relation to the surface.
    • The origin of the part (origin point of the first sketch) is the default grip point and the Z-axis of the part orients the feature based on the specified geometry.
    • We always recommend adding a grip point to a library feature. Part Handle

  5. Select Save.
Note:
  • You cannot save a part handled as a surface model in the feature library.
  • When the library feature is saved, also the browser image of the feature is automatically saved.
  • If you wish to edit the geometry of the library feature later, open the model from the feature directory with the Import function. Edit the model and save it again in to the feature library with the same file name.
  • You can delete or rename a subdirectory in the feature library through Windows File Explorer. You can also delete or rename a library feature, provided that you rename both library feature files. Notice the naming rule.
