Define Changeable Parts of an Assembly

General

  • Changeable parts can be defined in an assembly, in which case the part can be replaced by selecting a predetermined replacement part.
  • The section Changeable Parts opens in the Change Part dialog box, if changeable parts have been defined for the assembly or if Product Automation System has been selected in the assembly properties.
  • After defining the parts that can be changed, you can deselect Product Automation System option in the assembly properties.
  • The replacement of parts is done using the function Dimension Table, so the model must have
    • At least one dimension constraint with a variable label or
    • A local part with at least one variable label.
  • The parts should be modeled in such a way that they are suitable as changeable parts.
  • Changeability of a part can only be defined for archived models, not for e.g. components.

Define Changeable Parts for an Assembly

  1. Prepare the assembly as a product automation system.
    1. Click on the main symbol in the assembly feature tree.
    2. Select the context-sensitive function Properties.
    3. Select Product Automation System
  2. Select the part for which you want to assign changeable parts.
  3. Select the context-sensitive function Change.
    • The program opens the dialog box Change Part.
    • The dialog box has a section Changeable Parts, which is missing if the assembly is not defined as a product automation system.
  4. Select Browse.
    • The program opens the browser from the active project.
  5. Browse and select the changeable part, and then double-click it.
    • Select the part to be replaced first, which is already in the assembly.
  6. Select the Add function.
    • The program adds it to the list of Changeable Parts in the dialog box.
  7. Add all changeable parts to the above-mentioned part by repeating steps 4...6.
  8. Click OK to end defining the parts that can be changed.
  9. Deselect Product Automation System in the assembly properties.
    • The option in question is unnecessary.

Delete a Part from the List of Changeable Parts

  1. Click the part in the list.
  2. Select the Delete function.
