Edit an Assembly - General

An assembly can be edited in the following ways, for example:

Copy, cut, paste and delete parts

Copy a part to the clipboard:
  • Select the part and the context-sensitive function Clipboard > Copy, or press the Ctrl+C keys.
  • The part you selected is copied to the clipboard.
Cut the selected part to the clipboard:
  • Select the part and the context-sensitive function Clipboard > Cut, or press the Ctrl+X keys.
  • The part you selected is moved from the model to the clipboard.
Paste the part on the clipboard to the model:
  • Select the context-sensitive function Clipboard > Paste, or press the Ctrl+V keys.
  • Select a location for the part.

Delete the part you selected by selecting the Delete function or by pressing the Delete key.

Move and rotate parts

Move the part selected in the assembly, and position it to the new location. After selecting the part, select the Move function. Other parts in the assembly than the part you started with can also be moved by dragging.
You can move and rotate all parts of the assembly at once.

Define geometric constraints or edit constraints between parts

You can position the parts in an assembly by using geometric constraints.
If the part is in the correct position after adding and it does not need to follow other parts, for example during dragging, you can lock the part in place:
  • Select the part and then select the context-sensitive function: Constraints > Fix.
  • In this case, any constraints associated with the part will be deactivated.

You can release a fixed part with the context-sensitive function Constraints > Release.

Add dimension constraints between parts

Distance and angle dimensions can be determined as constraints for the parts in the assembly. These dimensions can be used to control the direction and position of the parts in relation to each other.

Delete constraints

You can delete the constraint by first selecting the symbol of the part in the assembly tree, then select the constraint and the Delete function.

Edit parts or create a new part

Edit a part or subassembly
  • Select the part and then select the context-sensitive function: Edit.
  • Select the part and then select the context-sensitive function: Open.
Model a new part in an assembly.

Save the part as a new document

You can save a part selected from an assembly into the model archive as a new part (document).
  • At the same time, you can, if necessary, replace the selected part of the assembly with a new part, retaining the geometric constraints of the assembly, or leave the assembly unchanged.
  • Save an Assembly Part as a New Part

Replace a part with another part

You can replace a part with another part.

Mirror the parts of an assembly

You can mirror copy parts in an assembly.

Create patterns from parts

You can create different patterns from parts: Linear and circular patterns.

Use the dimension table to edit an assembly

You can use the dimension table to edit the distances and angles between parts of an assembly if you have entered a variable or formula in the constraint. You can also use the dimension table to edit the dimensions of local parts in an assembly.

Create an explosion presentation

You can make one or more explosion presentations in an assembly, for example for the drawing of the assembly.

Select a part behind another part

You can use the 'selection assistant' to select parts behind other parts
