Add a Perpendicular Constraint
General
- A perpendicular constraint can be set between two lines (segments).
- If you give the perpendicular constraint to a line and a planar surface or a line and a sketch plane, the line will turn parallel to the surface. In other words, the perpendicularity of the surface is determined by the normal of the surface.
- You can also use cylindrical and conical surfaces as the other party of the perpendicular constraint, in which case the line is positioned parallel to the normal plane of the axis of the cylinder/cone.
Add a perpendicular constraint to a 3D sketch
- Select 3D Sketch | Constraints | Add perpendicular constraint or
- select the context-sensitive function Constraints > Perpendicular.
- Select the first line.
- This line will remain in place unless the second line to be clicked is locked in its direction with constraints.
- Select the second line.
- This line moves so that it is perpendicular with the first line.
- If the direction of the line is locked with constraints, then the first line moves.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 to add new perpendicular constraints
- Stop adding perpendicular constraints
- Select another function or
- press the V key or
- press the Esc key or
- click the middle mouse button.
Note:
- You can delete a perpendicular constraint by deleting it from the constraint list.
