Feature Patterns
General
- A feature pattern is always created from a "parent" feature already in the model.
- The parent feature can be a feature based on a sketch, a sweep, a loft, or a library feature.
- You can create a feature pattern from more than one feature. For example, a hole with a rounded edge.
- A feature pattern is created by copying the parent feature linearly in length and/or width direction or polarly on a circle or cylinder surface.
- When you edit the data of the parent feature, the features in the pattern are updated automatically.
- Other members of the pattern cannot be edited individually.
Selecting a Feature for a Feature Pattern
- Select a parent feature, which can be a sketch-based feature, sweep, loft, or library feature. Make a selection by clicking a feature in the feature tree or selecting a feature surface in the model.
- If you want to create a feature pattern from a rounding or a bevel, you must also include in the pattern creation the feature to whose geometry the rounding/bevel has been added.
- You can later add features to an existing pattern.
Linear feature patterns
- A feature pattern can only be a sequence of features in one direction.
- A feature pattern can be a two-way matrix of features that can be perpendicular or at an angle to each other
A polar feature pattern in a plane
- A feature pattern can form a full circle or an arc.

Table feature patterns
- You can also create a feature pattern by adding the locations of the features to a table.
- You can control the table with Excel in addition to Vertex G4.
Editing a Feature Pattern
- You can modify the parent feature, changing all the members of the pattern.
- You can change the number and location of the members of a feature pattern.
- You can change the location of a feature pattern by editing the sketch of the pattern.
