Spline (3D)

General

  • Sketch a spline curve by clicking points.
  • The program draws a construction line at the start and end point of the spline curve. By editing its direction and length, you can adjust the orientation of the ends of the spline curve. The spline curve will be tangential to these construction lines.
  • Later, you can select the spline curve to display the control points (= grips) of the curve. You can snap to these points and drag them to new locations.
  • If you start or stop drawing the spline curve at the end point of a line or at the point of discontinuity of a polyline, the spline curve becomes tangential to this line.
  • If you do not select a work plane, the spline curve is drawn on the drawing plane, the plane that is currently facing you.

Sketch a spline curve in a 3D sketch

  1. Select the function 3D sketch | Lines Spline or
    • select the context-sensitive function Line > Open Spline.
  2. If necessary, select the line properties, under 3D Sketch | Style
  3. If necessary, select Workplane to sketch a circle on an auxiliary plane.
  4. Click the spline curve’s start point.
  5. Click the remaining control points of the spline curve.
    • Click at least 3 points for the curve.
  6. Stop sketching this spline curve
    • Press the V key (V = Confirm) or
    • Press the middle mouse button.
  7. Repeat steps 2 to 6 to continue sketching spline curves.
  8. Stop sketching spline curves
    • Select another function or
    • Press the middle mouse button or
    • Press the Esc key or
    • Press the V key (V = Confirm).

Sketching a spline curve on a plane sketch differs in some respects from drawing a spline curve in 3D sketching.
