Cut a Sheet at the Tangential Lines

Sheet-Metal Design

General

  • Cutting a sheet at the tangential lines is related to the function Tangential Offset.
  • Add the lines along which the sheet is to be cut in the element list of the tangential offset, if necessary.
  • The surface chain must not have spherical surfaces. Please note this when you add rounding to the part.

  • In the case shown in the image below, the program adds the cut points itself.

Select the cut points

  1. Select one face from a tangential chain of faces.
  2. Select the context-sensitive function Tangential Offset....
  3. Define the tangential offset data in the dialog box.
  4. Add the lines along which you want to cut the sheet to the element list. Select Add, select the lines and select the context-sensitive function OK or press the mouse middle button.
  5. Select OK.

The sheet metal part above is flattened as follows when the tangential offset is created without selecting the lines to indicate the cut points.

Example. The cut points have been selected

  • When the lines shown in the left image have been selected in the tangential offset function, the flattening is done as shown in the image on the right.
  • Unfortunately, at least in version 28.0.xx, the program cannot highlight the selected lines "through" the selected surfaces, as shown in the left image, but the lines are hidden below the surfaces.
  • The selected cut lines are displayed one by one if you select the lines from the list.
