Add an Equal Radius Constraint

General

  • The equal radius constraint can be added to circles and arcs.
  • The constraint can be set to selected circles/arcs in pairs, or the constraint can be set in such a way that the radius of the circle/arc selected first is set to all circles/arcs selected after that.
  • The constraint can also be added to several selected circles/arcs at once.
  • In sketch geometry, the symbol for the radius constraint is R .
    • You can use the F9 key to show and hide the symbols of the constraints.

Add an equal radius constraint in plane sketch

  1. Select the function 3D Sketch | Constraints | Add equal radius constraint.
  2. Select the first circle or arc.
    • The radius of this circle or arc is preserved, unless a radius or diameter constraint is defined for the arc/circle being clicked next.
    • If you hold the cursor in place for a while after clicking the arc/circle, the program opens a mini toolbar with a button in the upper right corner of the cursor.
  3. If you want to select several circles/arcs at once, which will have the same radius as the first selected circle/arc, then select the mini toolbar function .
  4. Select the second circle or arc.
    • The radius/diameter of this arc or circle will change unless it already has a radius/diameter constraint.
    • If you selected the mini toolbar function in step 3, click more circles/arcs to which you want to set the same radius.
  5. Add new equal radius constraint by repeating steps 2 and 4.
    • If necessary, stop continuously defining the equal radius by selecting the function again and after the first circle is clicked, select the mini toolbar function
  6. Stop adding the equal radius constraints
    • Select another function or
    • press the V key or
    • press the Esc key or
    • click the middle mouse button.

The effect of the mini toolbar

  • The function is not selected : Only two consecutively clicked circles/arcs have the same radius.
  • The function is selected : A circle/arc is clicked first and all subsequent circles/arcs get the same radius as the first clicked circle/arc.

Add a constraint to multiple circles or arcs at the same time

  1. Select the circles and arcs that you want to give the equal radius to.
    • Hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the elements.
  2. Select the following contextual function: Constraints > Equal Radius.
    • Circles/arcs receive the radius of the first clicked circle/arc, unless the selected circle/arc already has a constraint that defines the radius.

You can also dimension several circles or arcs at the same time:

  • Select several circles or arcs.
  • Select the context-sensitive function Constraints > Radius.
  • A radius constraint is added to the circle or arc that was selected first and an equal radius constraint is added to the rest of the circles or arcs.
