Add a Perpendicular Constraint

General

  • A perpendicular constraint can be set between two lines (segments).
  • Drawing rectangles adds the necessary perpendicular constraints between lines.
  • In sketch geometry, the symbol for perpendicular constraint is .
    • You can use the F9 key to show and hide the symbols of the constraints.

Add a perpendicular constraint in a plane sketch

  1. Select Sketch | Constraints | Add perpendicular constraint.
  2. Select the first line.
    • This line will remain in place unless the second line to be clicked is locked in its direction with constraints.
  3. Select the second line.
    • This line moves so that it is perpendicular with the first line.
    • If the direction of the line is locked with constraints, then the first line moves.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to add new perpendicular constraints
  5. Stop adding perpendicular constraints
    • Select another function or
    • press the V key or
    • press the Esc key or
    • click the middle mouse button.

Draw a line in a perpendicular direction against another line

  1. Select a line adding function.
    • Two-Point Line.
    • Polyline.
    • Rectangle.
  2. Click the start point of the line.
  3. Move the cursor over the line to which you want to draw a line in a perpendicular direction.
  4. Press the T key.
    • The line direction is locked.
  5. Click the end point of the line. Continue drawing the sketch according to the function you selected.
    • A Perpendicular constraint is automatically added to the line that served as a reference.
