Add a Distance Constraint
General
- The function defines the distance between two elements (line or point).
- If a distance constraint is set between two lines in different directions, the program turns the lines parallel.
- The function can also be used to define the diameter dimension of a rotationally symmetric feature, if one of the lines to be selected is of the rotation axis type (Rot.Axis.).
- The distance constraint may be associated with a tolerance information.
- The dimension of the distance constraint can also be displayed in the drawing.
Add a distance constraint in a plane sketch
- Select the function Sketch | Constraints | Distance or
- select the context-sensitive function Constraints > Distance.
- Select the first line or point.
- This line or point remains in place unless the other line or point is locked in place with constraints.
- Select the second line or point.
- This line or point moves so that it is at the desired distance from the first line or point, unless it is locked in place with constraints.
- Click the position of the dimension.
- The program opens the dialog box Edit Constraint.
- Edit the data in the Edit constraint dialog box.
- Edit Constraint Dialog Box.
- At least check the value of the dimension.
- Add a formula, if you want to control the geometry with a dimension table.
- Select OK.
- If the distance constraint is the first distance constraint in the sketch, and there are no diameter or radius constraints in the sketch yet, then the distance constraint scales all lines in the sketch to match the entered dimension.
- Repeat steps 2 to 6 to add new distance constraints
- Stop adding distance constraints
- Select another function or
- press the V key or
- press the Esc key or
- click the middle mouse button.
Note:
- You can dimension the diameter of a part which is rotationally symmetric.
- The dimension will change between distance and diameter when you move the cursor over the rotation axis before positioning the dimension.
- The type of one of the lines must be Rot.Axis.
- This works for both the Distance and the Dimension constraints.
- After positioning the dimension you can drag the it elsewhere and it will remain a diameter dimension.
